Road Side Marmot
This marmot is seen here watching his surrounding for danger next to a road in Routt County.
What is a marmot you ask? Marmots are the squirrels of the ground. They live in burrows and tend to spend their winters hibernating. Usually when you see one marmot you are sure to see others, as they are highly social and use whistles to communicate with one another, especially when alarmed. You can usually find marmots eating grasses, berries, lichens, roots and flowers.
